Athif Dean and Emily Gough

Athif who graduated in June this year (2011) had a placement last year at McQueen (brilliant in itself and demonstrates the level of professional recognition that our students have within the fashion industry) this led to him being asked back to work on the dress which adorns the front cover of American Vogue this month....

We would also like to recognise Emily Gough, graduate 2011 who also worked on this garment during her placement at McQueen

Green Fashion Competition

Enrol for The Green Fashion Competition via www.thegreenfashioncompetition.com/participate before September 30th 2011 and compete for €25.000,-, a show at Amsterdam International Fashion Week, workshops and much more!

Registration deadline for The Green Fashion
Competition approaching
Registration closes on September 30th 2011

Amsterdam, September 19th 2011 - Amsterdam International Fashion Week (AIFW) and the Dutch Ministry
of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation (EL&I) are jointly organizing the second season of
The Green Fashion Competition (TGFC): a contest, which encourages participants to create 'green'
and ‘catwalkworthy’ fashion. Participants will design three outfits and write a business plan
wherein they explain how their ideas contribute to biodiversity. The organization called on
participants to register as soon as possible but in any event before September 30th 2011, before
registration closes.
The Grand Finale will take place during the 16th  edition of Amsterdam International Fashion Week
in January 2012.

Deadline
To avoid disappointment, ambassador of TGFC and international top model Lonneke Engel has called on
participants once more. "During the first edition of The Green Fashion Competition a number of
participants sent in their work after the registration was closed. That's unfortunate for everyone:
for participants who cannot participate, and the competition itself because we could exclude
talented contenders. This is why this time I really want to draw attention to the deadline. So sign
up before September 30th! "

Participation
Unlike the first edition, the competition is now divided into two categories. The first category is
for fashion entrepreneurs who are already working in the fashion industry and aim to lift their
business (internationally) to a higher plane. The first prize in this category is €25.000, -.
Young and starting fashion creatives who are setting up their company, can register for the second
category and can win a first
prize of €15.000, -.
From July 16th until September 30th 2011, anyone with a vision on the future of fashion can
register as an individual or as a team. Conditions and more information concerning (participation
in) the competition can be found at: WWW.THEGREENFASHIONCOMPETITION.COM

About The Green Fashion Competition
AIFW and the Dutch Ministry of EL&I aspire to initiate a change towards a more sustainable fashion
industry with The Green Fashion Competition. To do so, they provide a complete "prize pack" with
which the participants can really start a fashion business. Besides cash prizes, The Green Fashion
Competition provides workshops on biodiversity, sustainable entrepreneurship and creativity, a
platform at the 16th edition of AIFW and expertise from and connection with the Fashion Week
network. The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) works together with The
Green Fashion Competition on supporting talented entrepreneurs.

Successful first edition
The first season of The Green Fashion Competition launched in July 2010 and received over 180
entries, from all over the world. After the first selection, 40 remaining participants were invited
to participate in a series of workshops. From these 40 finalists, the jury selected eight that were
given the opportunity to further develop their business plans and present two outfits during the
"Grand Finale" at AIFW in January 2011. Dutch designer Elsien Gringhuis won the first prize of €
25,000, -. Shoes OAT came second and won €15.000,-.

Welcome to Galashiels September 2011

Welcome back to everyone and a special welcome to first years.

Ugandan fashion September 2011

I was at a very interesting conference in London a couple of weeks ago, where I was invited to attend a fashion show of contemporary Ugandan fashion.
It was a very different fashion ethic and had a strong historic influence of Victorian Clothing
Enjoy !!!
